Anxiety

Anxiety

Who do I talk to about possibly having anxiety!? My rhuemaologist, pcp, or should I try finding a therapist?? Then how does one find a therapist!?

My rheumatologist wanted me to take paxil for anxiety. I was to anxious to take it (googling side effects) I also has a very bad experience with effexor when I had a severe depressive episode during a very bad flare. He gave me low dose xanax. It is wonderful. You have to be careful because it is addictive. I am very good about only taking what I need. You have to know if you can handle that. I also take 20mg of Prozac. That little bit (that is a very low dose) keeps the anxiety away for me. I also suffer from depression on & off. This keeps it in my system & I can increase the dose if I feel a bout of the "black dog" coming on. Prozac is not really an anxiety drug, but it works for me & I have no side effects from it.

Probably your pcp to begin with if you need medication for it. If after they or you feel it necessary to see a therapist that would help too. I personally take ativan as needed and see a therapist weekly, but I also suffer from depression.

I share my anxiety with Rheumatologist because she is really great and understands. It is so common when dealing with this disease. I would say start there if you have a good relationship with that dr. It should be about you getting support and a Dr. that can do that.

Okay thanks Burchte! Not on antidepressants, I don't think I'm depressed it's more of an anxiety issue. I'm just really stressed from work and a few other things going on.

Are you on antidepressants? My rhumie put me on mine? I could not go a day without it. I really think half the world is on them.
