Esophageal Spasms

Esophageal Spasms

Does anyone else experience esophageal spasms?? I have them and the only relief is eating but once the meal or snack is over I feel it literally coming back up my throat. Then I've been nauseous from the new meds so include throwing up anytime I try and eat anything. What do you do for relief?

I know you wrote this a year ago but this might interest someone; especially if looking for examples of others with similar symptoms. I have lupus (SLE) and Sjogren's and a few of the other related stuff.
I've had crazy heartburn/esophagus pain over last 3 weeks. Comes in painful contractions that get stronger and then wane over 4 or 5 hours- usually each early morning.Sometimes pills hurt to swallow- even sips of water can make me double over while trying to sip in the morning! Inflammation in throat and esophagus I suppose.
The whole ordeal makes me feel like spitting and then eventually throwing up- much mucous. Recent ultrasound ruled out gall stones. Endoscopy showed some erosion (years of ibuprofen, Prednisone and recently Cellcept are most likely the culprits.) Endoscopy also showed candida overgrowth in esophagus. Doc doesn't think it is enough to cause my extreme pain but he isn't factoring in lupus going after the overgrowth. There might be infection present too. I can't remember if doctor said the word 'infection." CT Scan tomorrow to look at pancreas but I think we found what it is. I'm looking up all pro and con foods and taking some probiotic and enzymes. I'm really just guessing from cross info on Internet as doctor has offered no suggestions so far. He may be waiting for the CT scan results. And pain meds? Oh yeah, I'm on my own. Got it, okay.

I am having this problem right now. It is horrible. Mine come on randomly an really fast they feel like a pressure all the way down my esophagus an then when the spasms come it feels like someone is ringing out my chest like a washcloth. Nothing has helped mine except I went to the ER an a large dose of IV steroids or Levisin a GI medicine for spasms.
I have to follow up with a GI to see what's going on an causing them an you might want to do the same I know how annoying they are.
