What’s left to eat ?

So I’ve been keeping a diet for SLE, chrohns disease, lactose intolerance and celiacs disease but recently I’ve been reading a lot about histamine intolerance and I think that may be contributing to some continued symptoms. Histamine intolerance can be caused by many lupus medications including nsaids, prednisone, plaquenil, diuretics, gastric reflex meds etc. too much histamine in the body can cause brain fog, skin issues, severe menstrual cramps , anxiety, increased heart rate, insomnia,… read more

I've done the histamine-free diet. Made absolutely no difference in my Lupus.. 😔😒 I still felt like crap and my skin was, and still is, crap. Now I STILL limit histamines because I figure too much of anything is not a good thing. For example, I do not consume chocolate because of the caffeine and histamine. I use carob for all of my recipes, including "hot cocoa". I also swapped many spices, so I also do not consume cinnamon whatsoever (also high in histamine). I instead use ginger and cardamom. Cardamom I read actually helps to counteract histamine, plus it smells and tastes delicious.

Wow this is great info thanks everyone! I’ve been so concerned with chrohns and lupus diets that I overlooked histamine and I guess I have a lot of research to do ! I used to burp up air when I ate avocados and I thought they were my safe food but now I wonder if that’s why . My go to was always omega rich healthy fats like almond, avocados .. but avocados do always leave me burping up air for at least a day 😖.. now I’m thinking it must be histamine intolerance .. since decreasing my plaquenil dosage my stomach issues are improving although I’m still on it , since plaquenil increases histamine intolerance this makes sense ! Maybe that’s why I’m feeling better on lower dosage

Btw if you're truly concerned about histamine intolerance, you should look into Quercetin and/or Ancestral Supplements Grassfed Beef Kidney. I've never used it myself but have always been having it in the back of my mind because of the fact that the kidneys are the organs responsible for creating the DAO enzyme, which is necessary for the body to break down histamine:

"Supports urinary health, gout status, detoxification & histamine health w/ DAO

*High in vitamin B12 and selenium to support energy and thyroid health* "

Hope this helps!

I use The Lupus Diet Book like @A MyLupusTeam Member. It only covers Lupus, not really other autoimmune disorders, but it breaks down a lot of information about diet and I love the recipes.

Sorry. But I think you are going overboard about your foods. I suggest you get your dr to get you to a specialist and find out what your allergies actually are. You are throwing caution to the wind by avoiding things you don’t even know you are allergic too. Speak to a dietitian also to help you. But you’re panicking and I don’t know if you have too. Take care. ❤️
