The same signs and symptoms are found in systemic lupus, other autoimmune diseases, and allergic responses. The driving force for these S&S is inflammation, however it was induced.
In my opinion, there should be two areas for research: modulate inflammation and repair the damage that inflammation causes. My research group is studying the latter with the use of telomerase positive stem cells to repair, replace, regenerate damaged tissues.
