I have a trace of protein in my urine. I'm seeing a urologist on the 11th for a cystoscopy. That will tell them if anything is going on with my urinary system. My kidneys haven't shown any signs of inflammation.

I have SLE, and PKD (polycystic kidney disease). I've had protein in my urine for years, and it started before any of my diagnoses. Doc said it was okay but kept it an eye on it. Eventually it got higher, then got several AI diagnoses and very thorough workups. I've recently slipped from stage II kidney failure into stage III. There are other things to watch for in addition to the protein in your urine. If things don't improve or you'd like a more detailed look at your kidneys, find a good nephrologist and a referral. Best of luck to you!

This is something that needs to be monitor. You do not want protein in the urine.

I also have protein in my urine. My rheumy told me that as long as it is beneath a certain level and there is no blood then they will just keep an eye on it.. if it is above a certain level than they will refer you to a urologist i believe. my pmp checks my urine every 4-6 weeks for protein and -or blood. some months i have protein and other months i do not.. i have heard and read that lupus patients who have tested positive for the anti-ds DNA have a higher liklihood of developing lupus nephritis.. But I also know that blood results can be very misleading and depending on level of disease activity at the time of blood draw, certain things may or may not show.. I understand that is one of the reasons why a lupus diagnosis can take a long time to be determined. Protein in the urine though also could be something as minor as a UTI or something as major as nephritis. God bless you . Prayers and hugs! Hope you get it all figured out!

There should not be any protein in the urine, but they should monitor it.
