Lupus Flare

Has anyone had their lupus to attack or cause kidney failure? If so do you eventually receive an kidney transplant? In order to prevent the lupus from attacking your transplanted kidney what medications or diet you follow?

I had RA first then it attacked my kidneys and I had a kidney transplant in 1991 and my Lupus is dormant but I still have to take prednisone. The diet to follow I was told now days is to follow a more vegetarian diet and to eat beans as my protein. Meat not verty often. Back in 1991 i was told to eat a steak everyday and found out years later that was not really good on my kidneys. My kidney is still doing fine after all these years. My baby Sister gave me one of her's right before she got breast & Ovarian cancer. She has passed now but atleast I still have a part of her with me. Anymore questions just ask. I am here for you and anyone else that needs info. Big Hug. Stay strong, It took 10yrs for Lupus to eat my kidneys before the transplant.

@ GrannyBeth I am currently taking prednisone and Plaqenil to treat my lupus. Do eat certain foods to supress the lupus flares?

@A MyLupusTeam Member I take Imuran along with the prednisone which is for Lupus and transplant. Other medications is for all the side effects of kidney failure and prednisone. My dosage is low now. When I have a flair I have to go way up to get through the flair. Lulu is dormant for now and has been since my transplant in 1991 as long as I take prednisone & Imuran. I tried to lower them but I started getting fever so I knew to go back up. But from the information most doctors give Prednisone in high doses to get Lupus in control. I don't know alot about other medication cause my doctor won't change any of my medications. He says it has worked for this long so don't won't to mess with a good thing. Are you taking something else for Lupus? Big Hug and pray your doing good.
