So I'm not sure what is normal for a flair up. Recently I have a lot of trouble getting my arms above my head to try my hair up. A lot of food gives me gas and I almost always have loose bm. I recently started breaking out in what look like little hives. I normally just have severe joint pain and stiffness. What do you experience and what do you do to help manage the symptoms?

I have not experienced the loose stools or gas issues, but it could be caused by your meds especially NSAIDs as they are hard on the lining of your stomache and intestines. Yes the severe joint pain and stiffness if all apart of Lupus Flare along with your raising your arms to do your hair; When you get like this REST and do not favor the body part that you are having trouble without need to gently move it or you will end up with a "frozen shoulder. I suggest you go in a hot tub or a pool to do some stretching and movement exercises. The warm water loosens your tissues and makes it easier to move. I say this to myself "If I don't move it, I will lose it (my range of motion and mobility). You can also go see a physio therapist who help you out. Sometimes a cortizone in my shoulder has really worked well for me. I hope this helps you.

There is no normal during a flare. What happens to me is quite different than what will happen to you. Plus, it may change with each flare. I am repetitive here. Keep a journal to keep track and if there are rashes or anything you want to show the me, take a picture (a selfie) and show the me eith the journal to correlate what was going on. That way the me has a clear pic and can treat you effectively and gave a plan of care tailored for you.

There are probiotics sold at Walgreens they say 4 - strain probiotics on the box, Walgreens brand. The gastro told me these are the best ones as they have more of the ones we all need. Just an addendum to what else was said

I have the same problem I can't do my own hair anymore. I also start itching really bad, and severe joint pain. I take ibuprofen, a hot bath, green tea, or a fruit and veggie smoothie.
