I should visit my family this weekend, I just found out my nephew has chickenpox. There are several family members that never had it, including me. It showed up today and I'll be there Saturday. Does anyone know if him or the other family members are still contagious on Saturday?

I asked my doctor, he said I could go but not have contact with my nephew, that only the blisters can pass the disease. But he seemed a bit unsure and asking about the time period to his collegue attending the appointment. So I'm telling my family it is too dangerous, and waiting for their understanding.

It can be spread easily. You can get it from an infected person who sneezes , coughs, or share food or drink you can also get it from touching a chicken pox blister.. People can be contagious 2-3 days before rash appears. First symptoms of chicken pox usually develop 14-16 days after contact. When blisters have crusted over they say the person is no longer contagious. It is recommended that people with auto immune diseases avoid contact. Looked up Info for you . I am concerned for you .. I know it's difficult to miss famy functions and to miss out on events that really mean a lot to you. But please take care . Hope info helped

Hi Filipa,
I totally understand where you're coming from with family being disappointed with you not attending family functions, but they need to understand that when you get sick, You Really Really Get SICK, Sometimes hospital sick. I'm glad you're gonna check with your doctor. Maybe you can join them via Skype or Facetime. That's how we celebrate with my niece and nephew who live in Florida, just a thought. Either way, Take care and God bless.

You could have your dr check to see if you have antibodies to the chicken pox, I've never had them but my kids did, when I started working at the hospital they tested me and I had antibodies to it. I'm thinking is because of the lupus that I made the antibodies instead of getting ill. I don't ever catch anything and that is the only blessing lupus had given me.

I had shingles during one of my flares. I suggest that you do not go to the event. I hope that they understand why you can't go to this event.
