Members dealing with hair loss from lupus and medications like methotrexate shared a wide range of helpful tips and personal experiences. Several members recommended supplements like biotin, folic acid, zinc, and magnesium, while others found success with hair-strengthening products like Aphogee, castor oil, coconut oil, and gentle shampoos like Wen and Aussie. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of hair loss on self-esteem, with many members offering compassion and encouragement while noting that getting lupus under control often helped hair grow back.

@A MyLupusTeam Member I'm going to try that aphogee. I read reviews and every one was pretty amazing. Thank you, I hope it helps!

I lost about half of my hair a few years ago. It has finally filled back in, but I have to stay on top of it and be diligent. I only use products that are moisturizing and nurturing. I also weekly use a product called Aphogee. You can find it in a beauty supply store. It immediately began making a difference for me. I also take all the usual vitamins and supplements including biotin. Regular trims help it from looking scraggly also. I never had amazing hair, but liked what I had. I couldn't believe how much it affected my self-esteem for the years it was so patchy and see-through.

I had very thick hair my pony tail used to be about 2 1\2 inch diameter. I lost half my hair. I like you also was on Methotrexate and hydrocholorquine. After trying several meds my Lupus is under control meaning I haven't had a major flare sense August. Only then did may hair start growing back. I only take steroids when I'm having a flare. I do know that some people have no other choice to stay on steroids. But they come with many serious side effects. Hair loss can also be a side effect. Talk to your Dr.about it ..my Dr.gave me Folic Acid and it helped with my hair loss. Hope this helps.

It was suggested to me to use castor oil on my hair when my hair started falling out. My doctor also told me not to put any chemicals on my hair, so I have been wearing my natural hair for almost five years now. Try using castor oil or coconut oil.
