A MyLupusTeam Member asked a question 💭

I see a lot of people taking about Dialysis or Kidney issues in general. Is this something that is cause by lupus. I have Stage 2 Diabetes and have been put on medication, no insulin. I have thyroid disease , Heart disease, COPD , High Cholesterol and Neuropathy Im on medication for all issues. All apparently caused by Lupus, that went un-diagnosed until recently. With my kidney problems (Lupus nephritis), they have me do a urinalysis. They look for protein in my urine. That's usually an indicator that my kidneys are misbehaving again.
Those labs always mess stuff up. I was hospitalized for a bad blood test. It said my creatinine was super low. It wasn't. When they retested the same night before any treatment, it was totally normal. Ridiculous.
If your pain persists, I'd call the doc again. xoxoxo

Yes Lupus can effect the kidneys, but I see you are a diabetic and that also can effect the kidneys. I had a tumour in my kidneys but had two doctors one said it was to do with lupus another said no. I believe it had to do with the medications more than anything, but I am not a doctor. when you go for you check ups as about a kidney function test if you are concerned, but between your both doctors I would think they would be checking. I also found out when they caught the tumor which was when I was having a ultra sound for gall bladder stones, so was lucky it was caught, when and if they find out you have problems it could be a big % that has stopped functioning. I was so mad that they don't do function tests with lupus patients yearly, because the urine test does not show everything. My creatine levels where not high and 30% was not functioning. I hope this helps gentle hugs and blessings

That's the one thing my doctor is always checking on me. She said if I ever feel like I'm getting a kidney infection to make an appointment with her right away. It can be a very dangerous thing to have kidney problems with lupus.

I have Kidney involvement caused by my Lupus and like Lori said, my kidney doctor does urinalysis tests that can measure protein and creatinine in ur urine. If ur doctor finds certain indicators he/she may want to do a kidney biopsy that will help ur doctor decide whether u have Kidney disease involvement caused by ur Lupus.
