HELP!!! I'm gaining sooo much weight from all these meds...I really need to get a handle on it. I've always been active, physically fit and ate balanced. But now I can barely move due to joint pain and inflammation. I don't really have an appetite so why are the pounds piling on?

Does anyone have any recipes, juicing, or tips to share that has helped you to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Thanking you in advance. Sydnee

After 10 years of lupus I finally figured out how to control my weight. I did two things, started eating half the lunch and having the second half after i get back from work. Then something light for dinner as i cant go to sleepnif im very hungry. The second thing is i started walking on a teeadmil religiously. At first i only managed 4-5 mins since i havent beed doing much for years due to feeling sick all the time. Now im at 30 mins and to make it harder slowely increase the incline. Now i stopped increasing the time and incline and my weight stabilized ( 10 less pounds) and im ok with it. Now i stopped doing half lunch as walking seams to do the trick without food deprivation

Sydnee, I have the same problem plus the body inflamation. I do not take prednisone anymore.
I eat fruits and vegetables, nuts, veggie proteins, and sometimes I eat chicken and tuna.
For a few weeks I prepare a natural lemonade with ginger. Also, I just started taking 2 spoons of cider apple vinegar with water before your meals.
I try my best. Let see the results.
What is the best for us is aquaerobics. I feel like a fish in the water, and it does not damage the articulations...
The limitation of the movement and the meds are the 2 factors that affect us.

Hi @A MyLupusTeam Member I try to eat really well ... lots of fruit and veg, minimum carbs, and I've really cut down how much cheese I eat. I also try not to snack but only eat at meal times as I could easily snack particularly if in during an evening and watching TV.
Doing this has stopped me gaining any more weight, but to lose any I have to exercise as well .... I like aquacise as the water supports your joints ... At first I only went occasionally to a class as it took a while to build up my stamina but now I manage a class a week (sometimes even twice a week).
Sometime I also go to gym .... just walk slowly on a treadmill but try to do 10-20 mins with it on an incline to get my heart rate up..... again I had to build up slowly re how much I could do, how fast i could walk, how long I could do the uphill walk bit, and even now I usually only do 40-50 mins in total (including warming up and down).
Exercise does make my fatigue and aches&pains slighly worse than doing nothing but exercise helps me feel better about myself, and I'd rather have faigue & pain as the " exercise reason" than it just be due to my lupus

Just to add a little levity, but I'm kind of serious..............I think anyone on Prednisone should be given a free machine in which they are fastened to, that moves( exercises) our body for us so we can at least keep circulation moving and to give us a little boost to get more in shape for actual exercise. Plus we'd get some nice happy edorphins :) I know - I'm crazy huh???!!! Really though ;)
@A MyLupusTeam Member I'm as frustrated as you are Darlin' Hang in there Lupie Sister :) XOXO
