I have been having problems with my teeth, they are starting to go bad. I was told it's probably caused from all the medication and antibiotics I have been on for so long. I always have taken care of my teeth but I no longer have dental insurance and my smile was a big part of who I am. Any others having this problem and any suggestions?

Omg!!! I thought I was the only one!!! Have gone to the dentist with pain in my teeth that radiate up to my head!! He says there is nothing wrong with my teeth!! I have had to have a lot of teeth crowned over the last few years as they seem to be just breaking. But that pain is so real!! I'm so glad you all posted!!xoxoxo

I too had trouble with my teeth. They went bad to the point of just falling out when I was just sitting watching TV. I had to have the roots cut out and the rest cut out to get dentures. The pain before this was done was unbearable.
Have a long discussion with your dentist explaining how you feel, what are some options so you can keep your own teeth as long as possible with as little pain as possible. I hope I have given you some help even if only a tiny bit.

Try using biotene or other products for dry mouth. Lack of saliva can cause cavities, and cause tartar buildup. One rheumatalogist had me on pilocarpine eye drops to mix in water and use as a mouthwash-to increase saliva production a couple of times a day. It helped. Right now I am doing better and don't seem to need it.

I have Sjogren's (SHOW-grins) syndrome is a disorder of your immune system identified by its two most common symptoms — dry eyes and a dry mouth. Sjogren's syndrome often accompanies other immune system disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
Figured it was easier to include definition and spelling for you. My teeth began cracking, breaking, etc about 15 years ago. My brother has similar problems that we blamed on an over assertive/greedy dentist who would drill the hell out of our teeth - tell my mother we weren't taking care of our teeth. He would then proceed to tell her my brother had say 12 cavities (he was about 12yrs old, that my sister had 10 cavities (she was bout 10yrs) and I (who was 8) had say 15 cavities. She would get so angry and make us pay from our .50 cent/week allowance for month's. Jump forward when I was in my 30's & 40's - the cracking and breaking started. I'm now 55 - and thousands of dollars later - had crowns, bridges and finally about 3 years ago - an upper denture. I currently only have 6 teeth on the bottom and an ill-fitting partial. I do not have the $2500 X 2 for the implants plus what it will cost to pull the remaining 6 and make the bottom denture.
Let your dentist know right away you have Lupus. Ask your rheumatologist about Sjogren's. I don't know what can be done to stop it, but maybe there's things to lessen the effects.
