A MyLupusTeam Member asked a question 💭
Priest River, ID

So i had a kidney biopsy and it showed class 4 lupus nephritis but i have no markers for sle. Im so confused. My nephrologist says my lupus is active because its attacking my kidney. But i just dont understand how i have no markers for sle. Has anyone experienced this. Also now that im in treatment (ie: pred and cellcept etc) ny lupus is flaring. Swollen joints fatigue... I just want to know if i have full blown SLE.

Thanks in advance for the help.

U don't need a + ENA to have SLE. There are 100-150 different autoantibodies (ENA's) that can cuase the + ANA. Most rheumatologists only check for a few DS DNA, SM, SSA, SSB. Personally, I'm negative for this 4 test standard ENA specific marker panel. However, on the extended panel I'm + for histones and ribosmal p which are not routinely checked. I hope with treatment u feel better soon ! :)

^ I think all those healthy young people with + ANA's above 1:160 that don't have relatives with an Autoimmune are like mythical fairies u hear about but no one has ever seen.

^ Ha ha thanks. But I don't know that much, never had nephritis. I know only a little about ENA and ANA as I have read rheumatology books to sort through all the the Rheum's load of bull about "how lots of healthy people have + ANA's."

I too am always confused with my test results. I wish I had more information that was helpful to you. I think Dolphin could help us all! All I can say is ask questions, questions, questions! We deserve to understand as much as possible about our bodies and all these confusing tests and test results, 😘

Thank you for your prayers😌 its my saving grace. Prayer really does change things. With lupus nephritis i experience swollen and painful joints kidney pain in both kidneys and fatigue. Thats how i started with blood in my urine then there was later protein in my urine and that lead to me being diagnosed with lupus nephritis. Hope this helps a little.
