I was prescribed Plaquenil for SLE Lupus. I started taking it on September 15, 2017. Ideally, i am supposed to be on 200 mg x 2/day. I started on 1 pill per day and was fine. Tried to start taking 2 pills on the 14 day mark. This week, I have been experiencing dizziness, headache and nausea. I had not been experiencing those before. I am considering going back down to 1 pill. Did anyone have these symptoms after the third week? What is the likelihood that these symptoms will go away? If… read more

Wow, @A MyLupusTeam Member! You had a rough time! First, while I know that people do it, Ive heard that it’s pretty rare to take them both the same time because of the side effects. Then, you had a doctor who tried to judge efficacy at 3 weeks. My doc was like, “It takes at least 3 months. We’ll check back on how they are working in 3 months.” I’ve even heard that it took some people 8 months to a year. I don’t have the patience for 8 months to a year. I havent figured out how to look at the previous answers. Did you say you are stil on it or that it worked for you? What was the outcome?

Same here.... but after I tried a different pharmacy, the brand that they used didn't make me sick.

I cannot tolerate Plaquinil or any of the immune suppressants at any dose except for Imuran, and I take 1/2 dose because above that causes BIG problems. My take on your problem is try the lower dose that caused you no problem -- it's better than nothing and may be enough to corral your symptoms. Don't ever feel that you HAVE to take the dose they give you. If it helps at the lower dose, then stick with it.

@A MyLupusTeam Member yes I am still in the 400mg of Plaquinal, it’s helped a lot I mean a lot!! Before I couldn’t stand it I couldn’t walk? My husband had to take days after days from work? And now that I’m up on my feel I feel great, but the
Meloxicam wasn’t working so now I’m on a little stronger inflammatory medication, since it wasn’t working, I’ve seen improvements but my hands still hurt but it’s manageable with just the inflammatory medication, my RA feels that I’m not at the point where she wants me to take steroid medication, so I’m hoping the knew inflammatory helps way better !,
