I have ongoing swelling/water retention. I have gained over 20 pounds in the last month/six weeks. Even wearing bracelets put indents on my wrists. My legs are HUGE. It just keeps getting worse and water pills are ineffective.
Could this be my kidneys despite normal routine labs and spot urinalysis?

Rapid weight gain was one of the first things I noticed with lupus, that and stomach pains like all the time. I thought before I must have had kidney probs because of the pains in my back... I had an abdominal ultrasound and it showed my kidneys were ok. But a CT a couple years ago said I had scars on my kidneys... ugh. Lupus is such a complex illness. I'm so sorry you're going through this.. hugs and prayers for you! xo ♡

Yes I was hospitalized when it happened and my weight gain was happening right before my eyes in the hospital and they said it was my kidney’s were shutting down and they were trying to send me to dialysis but I refused to find out I had a fluid overload due to the huge bags of fluid they kept hanging which I warned them about fluid restrictions in the past, but once they saw me blowing up they called my doctor and monitored my fluids after placing me on Lasix and my weight went back down tremendously!!!

Hi Bethany, you know laboratories DO matter. Some labs "goof" and some more often than others. In fact I just watched a program on that subject not too long ago. There's a lab here I will never use again. If you are questioning it, you should get new orders and go to a different lab , if the resuls are the same as before then they're probably accurate, if not, I wouldn't use the 1st lab again! God bless and loving hugs!!
