Hello YolandaFranklin, I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I have been going through this and find it scary. haven't been diagnosed with Lupus, yet. I'm being monitored. I have always been petite, with my average weight being around 97 to 103 lb. for around 20 years now. Since some of my symptoms started, I have been down to 83 and 85, which was also a psychological barrier for me, going under 88lb was kind of scary. At some point, at work, I had very low energy, couldn't eat properly and was feeding myself on all sorts of crap for some energy shock, like 4 puddings a day. Even then I lost weight.

My thyroid and metabolic rate (probably the wrong term but nevertheless) have been checked - nothing irregular showed up. Further help has not been provided by experts. I will see a dietician soon.

What I have been doing on my own for a week now- and it is kind of helping I think. With 7 days under my belt, I don't know how reliable this is though.

1. I banned myself to think about it in terms of wasting. That term has very negative connotations for me. I'm calling it unwanted fast weight loss and unless a professional offers proper help and even that doesn't work, I will not call it wasting.

2. I try to encourage myself: I have friends who have been diagnosed with wasting medically and doctors managed to turn it around.

3. I have started omega 3 - fish oil and Ensure plus. Trying to have better quality nutrition at least. I seem to have gained 1 lb. I have better energy.

4. I will go on the scales only once a week or something. Constant stress about "wasting" is not helping me.

5. I have been dealing with ongoing fever for minimum 6 months now. I think it's related.

6. It seems more food seems to be staying in me since I eliminated a major cause of stress from my life - my horrible full-time job.

7. I truly suspect I have lost some muscle weight although this has not been checked. I will pressure my doc. to check up on these things.

8. I will definitely see a dietician soon and will share their suggestions.

Yolanda, hi. How is your appetite issue going? I have eventually managed to see a nutritionist and what to share some things he has said. I don't think these people are as knowledgeable as I'd like them to be in my country but maybe some tricks may helps us. (Note: this is not a lupus or inflammation diet, I just want to increase my appetiye.)

So he didn't prescribe any medication and said he wants to go the healthier way but he wanted me to update every 5 days and in 15 days, I will go for another control.

Instead of prescribed meds, he wants to try priobiotics for now.

Psychologically: he says, have the food table set every day, regularly, whether you eat or not. Soon, you will be more willing to try something. But have that table.

He also said, don't cook your own meals, the aromas and smells may make you full unnecessarily. (Yeah, living alone most of the time, I will rely on what house pets bring to the table:)))

Nutrition boost times: He has given me a classic diet, we want to limit Ensure and increase food intake but he said definitely one Ensure before going to bed but food instead of Ensure at "breakfast".

The order of food breakfast-lunch-something in between-dinner- something at night- ensure before sleep. He said I will not be able to do it immediately but this may give me a start .

No empty energy from sugar - I use a lot with my tea, coffee and coke. Honey instead of this. I chose (on my own) a propolis, gingko, turmeric, rosemary and blueberry mix with honey instead of normal honey.

I think there is nothing special with the diet I'm given and I will give this a limited amount of time to re-learn some eating habits. However, I'm not planning to try to stick to this very long if it doesn't help and will seek prescribed medication to increase my appetite.

If you like, I can also share the food list.

@A MyLupusTeam Member , how are you, how is your appetite issue going? We have spoken about this before, so here is some more stuff if you are interested.

Take care everyone :)))

I’m going through the same problem! I’ve asked to get my thyroid checked numerous times and it keeps coming back normal. No matter what I do / how much I eat I only seem to lose weight. I find the hardest part of it is dealing with people’s comments but I’ve just learned to except it and ignore them. It’s frustrating at times but it’s one thing I can’t control. Good luck !!
