To me it depends. Due to upbringing and character, I sometimes have difficulty accessing my deepest emotions and crying. It bottles up in me. At those times, when I want to get closer to buried grief, the following are my faves. I cry but feel good afterward.

- The Rufus Wainwright version of Hallelujah is pretty cathartic, never fails me actually.

- Same for Dance me to the end of love by Leonard Cohen. (I was never much of a Cohen fan but there you go.)

- For some reason, I find myself going back to stuff that I liked when I was much younger - Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel etc. They are easy to listen to, lyrics somehow ground me.

- Top pity-party music clip: the tango scene from the film Scent of a Woman

- Frank Sinatra, My Way - I cannot believe I'm writing it :))))

Opera, played loudly: I get lost in opera, forget about pain and everything sometimes.

When I want to experience a more badass mood:

Echo and the Bunnymen, Seven Seas especially. I'm a fan.
The Pulp: Common People
Grunge and then British Merseybeat in general.
60s protest music of my own culture

I never go through any medical operation - surgical, dental and stuff without my badass playlist without me.
