Hello, Okay, this has been an ongoing symptom, that I've never really addressed. I usually notice it in my yoga class. It happens when I'm on my yoga mat in a stressful position. Sometimes my feet are burning so bad, I have to come out of the position or get off the mat. What causes the burning feet sensation? And are you dealing with this, too? What do you do for relief? Have you spoke to your rheumy about it? Peace, katcove
I get this too. Sometimes in my hands, but mostly in my feet. I was told it's peripheral neuropathy (small fiber/sensory nerves). Google it and see if it seems to fit. Unfortunately the only way to positively confirm that's what it is, is to do a small fiber biopsy. Since I don't want to go on medication for it (usually they prescribe something like gabapentin) due to side effects and the fact I'm on too many other meds, I just opted not to do the biopsy. My neurologist said that's what it is. Just can't "prove it" without the biopsy. Rheumy said the same thing. I've read that fish oil can help. I take fish oil anyway for other lupus symptoms. I don't know if it's helping with that or not. But for me the burning in my feet is much worse when I'm in a flare. I've also read NSAIDs can help.
Good luck!
Have you seen a neurologist about this? It sounds like peripheral neuropathy which is awful burning, stabbing, tingling, numb extremities. It started in my feet and went to legs, arms and hands. It's the same thing they describe on ads for Diabetic neuropathy, just without the diabetic part. I got it from all the swelling in my body after my liver failed. After 6 weeks in the hospital I woke up with that awful burning, and am still fighting it with Gabapentin. (Neurontin). Just a thought. Cuz the problem with Lupus, besides the awful symptoms, is never knowing what's causing what! You could have a totally unrelated disease such as neuropathy. Hang in there!
I would suggest looking into Raynaud Syndrome. That’s what I have. Even though with that your hands and feet are typically cold, certain positions or other things can make them really hot and red.
This may sound odd but I have found cold water, wiping them with a baby wipe or lotion helps. Hope you figure it out soon!
It’s the Neuropathy
I have been offered Gabapentin for this type of neuralgia. For me the pain and burning comes and goes. I am sure activity like yoga helps this in the long run.
Going outside and breathing helps me through my firey nerve pain. I have a website where I share the latest science on the ways tree air can help us. Especially Lupus.
