What Does A High ANA Titer Mean?

What Does A High ANA Titer Mean?

I had my ANA checked to diagnose my Lupus. The titer came back 1:5120 with a speckled pattern. Does that mean I have super high levels in my blood? Is my SLE severe? Any help appreciated!

I found this site to be helpful at explaining the test results. https://rheuminfo.com/common-tests/anti-nuclear...

Yes, that is a very high ANA titer (so not likely false positive). Pattern is also specific to SLE lupus. Complements are low, which is another indicator of SLE. I am sorry. The best would be to consult with your rheumatologist - assuming that's who ordered these tests.

Yes, I agree with @A MyLupusTeam Member, although the ANA titer is not necessarily indicative of your level of disease activity. Has your rheumatologist contacted you? You may want to ask for further testing such as rheumatoid factor, CRP, sed rate, and lupus anticoagulant if these tests have not already been done. As a resource, I would recommend Daniel Wallace's The Lupus Book, which has information on the latest treatment options. It really helped me when I was first diagnosed in 2016. Wishing you all the best. :)
