My vision has always had episodes of getting blurry. This time... it’s a whole new ballgame. I’ve been seeing double. Gotten used to it. Accepted it. This has been going on about a month now. WELL!!! Let me talk to you all about how my vision is zooming in and out like a camera. At the speed of a camera on autocorrect. Along with this, it sometimes looks like the words are waving... like swerving up and down as I read. Can anyone explain what’s going on? Please. I’m going to the doctor but I… read more
I have this too, its off and on. Sometimes it's really bad to where I'm afraid to drive. I'm being referred to an neuro opthalmologist so we'll see
So everyone, the optometrist diagnosed me with allergy buildup on my eyes and dry eyes. She gave me eye drops specifically for that and said visine is addictive and to steer clear of this. She also said to take Johnson’s baby shampoo and lightly scrub my eyes but not get it in my eyes because it will burn regardless of the label. The drops alone made things clearer and wow the colors are even different. She said my thyroid hormone makes it impossible to treat my astigmatism because it fluctuates too much. Even if we find my correct vision lenses, the hormone will fluctuate and cause double vision and ect...She said dry eyes, allergy build up or hypothyroidism alone can cause double vision. I’m basically screwed prescription wise BUT thankfully, the eye drops help.
Blurry vision is something I have as well. The last blast of IV steroids in seems to have made it stop, maybe. The eye doctor said it was because the Benadryl changed the pressure in my eyes, which I think is doubtful because it does not explain the times I've had this without Benadryl. I actually think it's Hashimoto's related. I associate the blurry vision with my other symptoms of hypo (they tend to get worse together). Sometimes it lasts for a month and a half or longer, then it goes away, then it comes back.
What I also don't understand about it is that of course steroids are not going to impact your tsh in a good way, but it seems to maybe have helped. A caveat to this is that I went hyperthyroid after the steroids also, so it may have just gone more hyper and decreased that symptom. I don't know if it was the steroid or the hyperthyroidism that made it go away. Also being hyperthyroid is obviously also a problem -definitely not going to be good for your eyes either.
From a doctor, I was not able to get any reasonable explanation of it, nor a plan to treat it. But that is what I basically realized from thinking about my own labs and symptoms: more hypo=more blurry, less hypo=not blurry. Hope that helps. When I go more hypo again, I'll let you know if I get the blurry vision again.
Also it prompted me to go listen to audio books and I actually enjoy those now.
I don't know about the other eye symptoms you described. I've not had those.
I just want everyone to know that it was from my thyroid. My TSH evels were dangerously high. I wanted to update for those who may come across this question one day.
I have had this randomly happen to me through the years. I believe its the lupus. It will go away for me. But comes like flares I guess lasting a few weeks or months. Its really weird and exactly like you described. In fact I am having this problem the last few weeks. The doctors say my eyes are fine.
