Hi everyone. I was recently diagnosed with SLE and although I don’t remember ever distinctly having what I considered a rash on my face I’ve always gotten red across my cheeks very quickly when I get warm.

Today after going outside for 20 minutes in the sun I noticed my face looked like this and the red areas burned like they were being pricked. Is this a butterfly rash?

Thanks everyone! It’s the first time I’d noticed it but who knows if it’s the first time it’s happened. I’ll keep the photo and check with me rheumatologist during my next appointment 🙂

mpaige0517, there is a brand of clothing called Coolibar that is 50 spf. I have a few shirts and hats. You might want to check it out since your job requires being in outdoors. Just a suggestion.

Unfortunately avoiding the sun isn't really possible as an environmental educator. I wear sunscreen and it's not like I'm laying out or anything but it kinda comes with the job.
