My rheumatologist told me I should see a psychiatrist because my symptoms were probably in my head. I am totally confused. I did have a negative ANA test the second time I had blood work done when before it was positive. Any ideas?
Yes. You can have symptoms with a neg ana
It’s my understanding that just because you have an ANA test that’s positive, doesn’t necessarily mean that you have Lupus. Originally I was diagnosed with PMR (poly myalgia rheumatica), after one ANA positive test was diagnosed with SLE. Kinda frustrating, all I know is it’s a real pain lol
Are you taking plaqinal ? Because after you start taking it it will give you a neg ANA
I'm not sure but I assumed that if the ANA shows up on your bloodwork you are having a flare. If not you are in remission. Has anyone else heard or thought that?
Hi Poppy,
That's mist be very frustrating for you.
Have your Rheumatologist do a DNA test along with the ANA. The DNA for lupus is very conclusive.
Please bear in mind that blood tests are performed and interpreted by humans and humans do make mistakes.
It's good to use another lab, especially the fact that the Rheumatologist was so insenitive..
All the best
