For a few years I have been having chest pain right in the center of my chest, accompanied with pain in my neck into my jaw at times. Before I was actually diagnosed with SLE I would go to ER only to have hours of tests and being told it’s anxiety. My GP said it would be good to have a cardiologist because SLE is unpredictable. I made an appointment after having a few more incidents and he thought I should have a dobutimine echocardiogram. Two days later I’m going thru absolute hell with this… read more
Hi Karla, I added you to my team and invite you to do the same. I have had the same symptoms as you with the chest pain, shortness of breath and racing heart rate. I had workups by 2 cardiologists and neither one found any issues with my heart. I had a pulmonary breathing function test and found there is a slight obstruction for which I started with albuteral but that didn't help so am now using adavair. I still have other symptoms of lupus not yet addressed. I started on hydroxychloroquin and also tried colchicine to reduce inflammation and discontinued them due to side effects. I have been taking Imuran for the past 2 months with no side effects. I will go back in 6 weeks for blood work to see where the #s and symptoms are. I'm hoping that you get some relief soon.
Wanted to add...lupus caused me to have IST (inappropriate sinus tachycardia). My cardiologist helped me quite a lot with this by putting me on Metoprolol and Corlanor. This combo controls the rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, and dizzy spells quite well--not entirely, though. I still have chest pain from time to time and a general, overall feeling of weakness. I used to be very active, and now If I can walk a mile or two, I am happy. I feel like my heart is weak. It's a terrible feeling--I don't know what more can be done. I'm only 40, and this all started when I was 37. I really, really wonder if the Hydroxychloroquine could be contributing to my chest pain/tightness. I want to try something new. I've already tried Methotrexate which was a HORRIBLE experience--so many terrible side effects. Sigh. My journey continues.
It helps so much to hear others' experiences!
Anxiety just sneaks up and messes you up whenever it feels like it, am I right? I took Xanax for years to control anxiety. I finally got divorced and changed jobs and, lo and behold, anxiety greatly reduced. Now I am using CBD 25-50mg in gummy bear form when I feel the chest tightening and fluttery heartbeat. The CBD stops them within 30 minutes. It lasts about 4 hours, but I'm pretty calm for at least 8 hours. THC works better than CBD (dose is 10-20mg) but it's still illegal in many states.
I have this too. I went to the ER, and the doctor told me I have pericarditis caused by lupus.
You should see a pulmonologist. I have the same thing and told it was pleurisy or pleuritic chest pain. It is a stabbing pain right in the middle of your chest and can go to your neck and back. It is very painful. Hope you feel better!
