Does Anyone With Lupus Also Have Anti Cardiolipin Antibody? How Does This Affect You?
Anti-cardiolipin antibodies (ACA) can predispose to blood clots, but the lupus anticoagulant confers the greatest risk, from the most recent reading I've done on this. I've had the ACA IgM for many years with no clots to date. I hope this helps!
NO, normally just by examining a blood smear under the microscope, it's easy to determine if it's clumped platelets or truly low numbers of them. Please request this if not yet done.
The best to you, Alicia! I hope you have no more of these problems and assume you're now on blood thinners to prevent more clots.
I wish you the best of luck with your issues. I had clotting, excessive bleeding and miscarriages. I tell you it is not fun. Again I wish you the best.π
I do π
It puts you at greater risk for blood clots. And that can be a serious thing as it could result in heart attack, stroke, or a pulmonary embolism. Deep vein thrombosis is also not fun.
I've never had a blood clotting event yet, knock on wood. But it can also cause miscarriages in pregnancy. We're pretty certain that our inability to overcome infertility issues is due to it despite being on prednisone and using lovenox shots to prevent issues. I had implantation issues and early miscarriages.
If positive for this antibody, and you do have a clotting event or 3 miscarriages they consider it Anti-phospholipid Syndrome. APS for short. But it's not uncommon for people with SLE to have anti-cardiolipin antibodies.
I don't know what's going on with me exactly but I seem to have now developed Thrombocytopenia. And one of the things they have to rule out is whether or not it's actually low platelets or if the platelets are clumping and giving a false result. For me, platelets are being destroyed by my immune system. I just added Imuran to my medications in hopes we can manage it.
The irony of constantly being worried about a clotting event and now worried about the opposite is a strange thing.
