Does Anyone Experience Weird Things With Menstrual Cycle Or Premenapause And Lupus Flares?

A MyLupusTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
North Haven, CT

My period and lupus have been ganging up on me. About 3 days before I get my period I have pain and fatigue with cramps and bloating. To the point of being dizzy and shaky. I had to leave work because i felt like i was going to pass out. Also my period has been coming more frequent which means more flares. I think I'm pre menopausal. I see my doctor in July.

My periods were like that. I went on a vegan, mostly whole food diet with lots of greens and omega. 3s. It took 14 months but my periods finally normalized. They are a little longer than I’d like (7-8 days) but the bleeding is normal and I’m not tired and dizzy and unable to function any more. My rheumatologist said the bad symptoms around periods was related to cytokines being released as part of the natural process but that because of lupus the inflammation effects you more severely. Hope you find something that helps!

I'm right there with you. My cycle and flare ups are so much worse. I feel so sick and tired but the pain allows for absolutely no rest.

Oh boy, that all sound terrible. Unfortunately, I can relate. My lupus symptoms always ramp up right before my period and during. This includes extra fatigue, worsening aches, headaches/migraines, light sensitivity (specifically my eyes) and general weakness. I wonder if this all has to do with dysregulated hormones? Mentioning it to your doc is important, and I will do so as well. We can get through this!πŸ’œ
