Anemia (low red blood cell count) is very common with lupus, affecting about 50% of people with SLE. When your body doesn't have enough red blood cells to deliver oxygen properly, it can definitely cause symptoms like fatigue and dizziness. Regular blood tests are essential for monitoring how lupus affects your blood cells. A hematologist (blood specialist) can help explain your specific blood test results and what they mean for your lupus management. As one MyLupusTeam member wisely shared, blood tests are crucial for keeping track of how lupus might be affecting your organs. Fatigue is an extremely common symptom in lupus, affecting between 67% and 90% of people with the condition. This fatigue can be made worse by disease activity, as your body uses extra energy to deal with inflammation. If you're experiencing persistent fatigue and dizziness, it's important to discuss these symptoms with your healthcare provider to determine the best course of action.

Is low iron a part of SLE?

Yes, I have anemia and fatigue. I can sleep 14 hours like I did last month on one of my days off, and still feel drained. I'm trying to talk to my behavioralist about a dietitian and nutritionist, to see if they can help me. Ađź’›nd, possibly a personal trainer to increase energy along with my meds and vitamins.

I had to have iron infusion. It was great when it kicked me in. My iron has maintained itself since then.

Not a problem @A MyLupusTeam Member, questions are important in this community.
My Hematologist sternly advised against taking iron supplements. She says my body has enough ferritin, it just doesn't know what to do with it.
My WBC was 2.1 to 2.3 for years when Sjogren's antibodies were active. I used to be happy if it went to 2.7.
Now, it's 3.9 for the last two blood work in 6 months! Sjogren's antibodies has not been active based on blood work, but still experiencing dry eyes, dry mouth, fatigue etc.
Lupus antibodies now active. Hemoglobin is much better. Last blood work showed 12! Haven't been that probably since I was a child🤔. It's usually 10.8 - 11.5.
However, my mcv, mch, and mchc have been low for probably 30 years.
My RBC goes from normal to high from one blood test to another for the last two years.

On the good side, my absolute neutrophils have been low for a year now, but finally increasing (almost normal now)...🤞🏽
