Thanks! Can the lip swelling occur with any sun/light exposure? I was staying at hotel and the room had floor the tInted ceiling windows. Stupidly, yesterday, I exposed myself the the light coming in the room for about 1 hours before leaving. Today, I have upper lip swelling and hive like rash on arms, no new meds, was tapering Prednisone, No spread further. I took Benedryl and went back up on Pred. per rheumatologist instructions.
Swelling occured twice previously, but after unavoidable sun thru car window.

For those with cutaneous lupus (skin lupus), lip swelling may be especially related to sun exposure. This is why it's crucial to use lip balm with at least SPF 30, in addition to regular sunscreen on your face. To help manage lip swelling, try these tips:
- Avoid touching swollen areas
- Check if any of your medications increase light sensitivity
- Stay out of the sun when possible
- Use sun protection specifically designed for lips
- Be aware that some cosmetics or skin care products may trigger sensitivity
If you experience frequent or long-lasting lip swelling, especially during a flare, it's important to discuss this with your healthcare provider as they can help determine the root cause and provide appropriate treatment options.
