Stress is a significant trigger for lupus flares, and your body is clearly telling you that you're experiencing too much right now. The physical demands of clearing out a house, combined with the emotional stress of dealing with a complex family situation, can create a perfect storm for symptom flares.

When your body responds with severe pain and swelling requiring multiple days of recovery, that's a clear signal you're exceeding your current stress threshold. Consider breaking down the house-clearing project into much smaller tasks spread over a longer period. Instead of consecutive days, try:

- Working for shorter periods (2-3 hours maximum)
- Taking full days of rest between active days
- Hiring help for physical tasks
- Using a professional estate sale service
- Focusing on one room or area at a time

Remember that pushing yourself too hard now could result in longer recovery times and more severe flares, ultimately taking longer to complete the project.
