Managing lupus flares often requires a combination of medical intervention and self-care strategies. Most people manage their flares at home through:
• Getting plenty of physical and emotional rest
• Avoiding current stressors
• Finding effective ways to deal with stress
• Working closely with their healthcare team Regarding Show Full Answer
For a flare involving increased symptoms but no organ issues--which technically isn't a "flare" per rheumatologists--I find increased rest and TLC helpful. For organ flares, an increase in immunosuppressants is necessary, and infrequently, prednisone must be increased, too. As you know, it's best to avoid prednisone increases whenever possible. My organ flares have typically lasted somewhere in the range of 3-6 months.
@Ishy--If you frequently require increased prednisone doses, you may want to talk with your rheum about whether your daily regimen needs to be adjusted.
Well before I got entirely sick and couldn't take medicine or anything and end up moving here and now as you know finally going to a doctor on the 16th this month hopefully getting medicine I just had a hydrochloroquine they were supposed to give me prednisone for in between flare-ups and then the doctor that I had decided to move to a different practice and I didn't have anyone in place of them nobody told me and so I ended up being out of hydrochloroquine and having no Prednisone thankfully I had pain medicine but that was for nerve damage throughout my entire body. Other than the other clerk when I had pregambling and my trampoline hydroxyzine duloxetine trazodone and some other type of thing I had in a couple other things I don't remember if you're all that will change when I go to my doctor appointment on the 16th flare ups my flares end up being constant from months practice hours and days and weeks months when I look this is a lot worse than it used to be no one can tell you that oh after you have cigarettes you quit and it'll be fine but anyway it is it healthier you are sometimes your body responds and kind and attacks you worse and if he is to go back to cigarettes though gives me too much heartburn and it cost too much money and it's gross needless to say also I follow Jesus and now particularly like poisoning my body kind of funny that I have to poison my body to keep myself alive and keep me from being in pain though right when are you going to do all I can do is praying to the best I can.
