Members responded to a question about belly swelling, with many sharing that they experience it too, often tied to different causes like eating, medications, or other health conditions. Several members noted that prednisone and steroids contributed to their bloating, rounded belly, and even a buffalo hump, while others linked their swelling to chronic liver disease or specific medications like Hydroxychloroquine. A recurring theme was that belly swelling shows up in many different ways for different people, and members found comfort in knowing they were not alone.

Swelling is a common symptom that many people with lupus experience. While the search results don't specifically address belly swelling, they do indicate that swelling in various parts of the body can be related to lupus or medication side effects.

Here are some general tips that may help manage swelling:
• Regular exercise to improve circulation
• Staying hydrated and moving throughout the day
• Following a low-sodium diet (with doctor's approval)
• Taking prescribed medications as directed
• Elevating affected areas when possible It's important to notify your doctor about any new or worsening swelling, especially if:
• The swelling occurs suddenly
• You experience pain with the swelling
• You have additional symptoms like shortness of breath or dizziness
• You're unsure if it's a medication side effect

Your healthcare provider can assess your condition and adjust your treatment plan if needed. Never start or stop taking prescribed medications without consulting your doctor first.

My belly started to get puffy after taking prednisone for a while it's comon to get a rounded belly just like your face and I have developed a hump so to speak at the bottom of my neck ,top of my back between your shoulder blades. Sometimes they call it a buffalo hump from the steroids. I hate it. It goes down a little bit when you stop the steroids but builds back up when you go back on them because of a flare. I hope this helps you.

Yes, I do. It was the first symptom I had. For long years, I did not wear pants because of the extreme swelling of my belly.

I exercise daily, I don’t take steroids (I can’t), swelling is at the top of stomach just under the esophagus. I have already spoken with my doctors.
