I have been taking the Benlysta infusions 7yrs now but the last 3 mos something has happened been real sick - extremely exhausted- my right face went numb landed in the hosp. No clue what caused it. I’m wonder if anyone else has experienced something after taking Benlysta infusions? I go take it in the morning and I’m so nervous of having it afraid something will happen again.

It sounds like you're in a flare with your extreme exhaustion, Maersk, and I hope you've seen your rheumatologist. Take care of yourself, and please keep us posted.😘

Has anyone experienced facial numbness on one side while taking Benlysta infusions?

First, it's completely understandable to feel nervous about your upcoming infusion after what you experienced. Sudden numbness on one side of your face, especially with extreme exhaustion, is something that needs immediate medical attention.

Facial numbness on one side can be a serious symptom. According to lupus health information, sudden numbness, weakness, or paralysis on one side of the body is a reason to contact a healthcare provider right away, as it could indicate a stroke.

Other stroke warning signs include:
* Sudden confusion or difficulty speaking
* Vision changes
* Dizziness or trouble walking
* Severe headache
* Drooping of one side of the face when smiling

Risk factors that increase stroke risk include high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic inflammation, and smoking. Regarding Benlysta specifically, while infusion reactions can occur, the symptoms you describe - particularly one-sided facial numbness - aren't typical side effects. Common infusion reactions include rash, nausea, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, and facial swelling (not numbness on one side).

Before your appointment, please call your rheumatologist to discuss what happened. They need to evaluate whether this was related to lupus disease activity, a possible stroke, or another cause. Don't go to your infusion without speaking to your doctor first about your concerns and these symptoms.

Your safety comes first, and your medical team can help determine the right path forward.

Please get plenty of rest and relaxation, Maersk. I can relate to feeling anxious and scared with flares, but reducing my stress with meditation, listening to music, etc.--whatever works for you--has always helped.

It's worth touching base with your dentist if you haven't yet about the numbness persisting since your procedure.

This storm is frustratingly interfering with appointments! I hope you get in soon, and please keep us posted.💜
