Members connected over the frustrating reality of recurrent sore throats, ear pain, and mouth sores as symptoms of their condition, often worsening during flares or changes in weather. Several members shared practical coping strategies, including Magic mouthwash for mouth sores, addressing reflux-related throat issues through esophageal surgery, and managing TMJ-related migraines, while acknowledging the challenge of eating and maintaining weight when mouth sores are severe. A recurring theme was the emotional support offered through prayers, encouragement, and understanding of each other's pain, with many expressing solidarity over living with symptoms that doctors often cannot fully resolve.

Judy! Have you checked with your dentist for some Magic mouthwash? That helped me get rid of my mouth sores?

I get those sores in my mouth and it's really hard to eat. I hate it when that happens because I've already lost 80 lb it worries me because I'm going through it right now and I don't want to lose any more weight I hope everybody's having a good day

Can sore throat and ear pain be related to lupus or weather changes?

Yes, both lupus and weather can contribute to throat and ear pain. Many MyLupusTeam members report experiencing sore throats, especially during lupus flares.

Lupus-related causes include:

- Respiratory infections (lupus weakens your immune system, making infections more common)
- Sjögren's disease, which causes dry mouth and throat in 23-35% of people with lupus
- Throat sores or ulcers
- Inflammation from lupus itself

Weather can definitely play a role too. Cold temperatures can increase your body's sensitivity to pain and cause muscle spasms. High humidity levels can also worsen symptoms for some people.

One MyLupusTeam member shared: "I get a sore throat when I have flares." Another mentioned: "I have pain in my throat when I swallow, but not like a sore throat from an illness."

If your throat pain persists or you notice swollen lymph nodes, it's important to contact your doctor. They can determine if it's an infection that needs treatment or if it's related to lupus activity. Since lupus medications can make you more prone to infections, prompt treatment is especially important.
