Members shared a wide range of SLE flare symptoms in response to the question about what flares feel like, with the most common experiences being extreme fatigue, deep joint and muscle pain, brain fog, skin sensitivity, and digestive issues. Several members described creative relief strategies including cold water soaks, epsom salt baths, TENS units, hot and cold compresses, staying warm in layers year-round, and self-care routines with tea and heating pads. A recurring theme was that managing flares is deeply personal and takes years of trial and error, but many found comfort in knowing others truly understand the experience.

My flare symptoms are similar to @A MyLupusTeam Member. With severe flares, I develop shortness of breath.

For milder flares, I rest more, occasionally take Tylenol, and immerse the affected joints in cold/ice water. If a flare persists beyond several days, it's worthwhile contacting our rheumatologists to ensure there's no associated organ flare, which is determined by lab testing.

My flare-ups usually involve extreme fatigue and exhaustion; joint and muscle pain; swwlling; and brain fog. Those are the most common for me.

Very thankful to have avoided any flares for awhile, but I do experience symptoms periodically, especially when I'm due for my biologic. The first thing I notice is brain fog, honestly. I will be unable to carry a conversation or remember the thought that I just wanted to write down. At the same time the pain and stiffness will increase in my fingers and knees. And my digestion will stall--I'll get constipated.

My flare ups usually last a few weeks to a month. I get extreme fatigue. Muscle pain, weakness and brian fog. The only solution I have found is bed rest. I can't take anti-inflammatories because I have stage 2 kidney disease. I have to very careful with my medications.
