What's being experienced sounds like an injection site reaction, which can happen with Benlysta (belimumab) auto-injections. Some redness, swelling, and puffiness around the injection site is a known side effect. The brown discoloration afterward is likely post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation β€” basically the skin's way of healing after irritation.

That said, a reaction that spreads and lasts up to 72 hours is worth keeping an eye on. Here are some signs that would mean it's time to contact a doctor:

- The area becomes increasingly hot to the touch
- Redness or swelling continues to grow beyond 72 hours
- The site becomes more painful over time
- You develop fever or flu-like symptoms alongside it A few things that may help manage the reaction:

- Rotate injection sites β€” never inject in the same spot twice in a row
- Apply a warm compress after injection to help with swelling
- Gentle movement around the area can boost circulation and aid healing
- Over-the-counter pain relief can help if it's sore

It's really important to let the rheumatologist or prescribing doctor know this is happening. They can assess whether the reaction is within normal range or if adjustments to the treatment plan are needed. Don't just push through it without flagging it! πŸ’›
