Since the hypertensive crisis this week, my body keeps going into fight or flight even when my mind is calm. My heart races, I get hot flashes or drenching sweats, nausea, and that on-alert feeling, sometimes waking me up at night. I think it's a mix of adrenaline surges, my steroid taper, and the lupus being very active.
Has anyone else experienced this? What helped you calm your body down? I'm already doing prayer, breath work, sound healing, and cool cloths, and they help a little. I'd love to⦠read more

My cardiologist was finally able to get my blood pressure under control after a year. I am on the highest dose of Amlodipine, Losartan Potassium, and Spironolactone. I also take Paroxetine for my extreme hot flashes, which I have not had 1 hot flash since being on this medication. I still have the racing heart, but it is not as bad as it was before. I hope this helps. When I am in a flare, I constantly feel like I am in fight-or-flight mode, but my psychiatrist has me on a slew of things, which I am so grateful for. I do not think I could get through this without a little help, and I deserve to feel good by any means possible. π₯°
@A MyLupusTeam Member you are the best!! Seriously, girl and your clinical thoughts on the BP crisis rising because the kidney flare, Jesus thank you for confirming my thoughts on my head. So I'm currently searching for new rheumatologist. Last week literally they parted ways with me, which I was going to terminate them after securing the new rheumatologist. I also love your thoughts on the cortisol, it's going to be spiked because the steroids.
Oh no the speaking life to organs and body is not corny, they're alive and can hear us, so I believe in talking to them. And I think for a while I stopped, so everyday I've been talking to each of them. π I am so grateful for your perspective, I wish you lived here I'd be your patient π
I will for sure keep you all updated on my discharge!
I sleep in a loose, breathable kaftan, with a fan on, and usually take a β9 gummy just to get myself a few hours of sleep. I hope you get some relief. Prednisone is necessary, but it can screw with our hormones/endocrine system.
This is just my opinion, but maybe ask your primary care doctor if you should be on a beta blocker. It's used for alot of things you described, and it's just a suggestion. Research something along the lines of Propranolol. But you're doctor will know if you need it and if you can even take it. Have a great day.
@A MyLupusTeam Member I haven't heard of this one, but I want to try listening, I found rnb scriptures on YouTube and that's been helping a bit. I am praying through this as well, I know God is my healer and protector, and I have a therapy session tomorrow. This is a journey girl, we got this!! π
