They put me on predisone everyday . Are you? What are the goods and bads.
Started out at 80 mg daily in january. Woof woof.side effects galore. weight gain, moon face, fingers randomly locking. But the swelling and pain in the legs went away enough that I could walk again.Blood sugar went all wacky and there was a few times I went through some roid rage. rheumie said that we have to taper off the dosage 5 mg lower each week. Made it down to 65 mg per day and things started swelling again. I've been at 60mgs per day (which is still a high dosage) for two more months. now we are trying to taper it down again 5 mg per week unti I can get to 40 mgs a day.In the mean time, we are adding MTX and Folic acid (he called it a DMAID) to replace the prednisone and the imuran that I was taking.
my understanding is that 7.5 mgs daily is considered a normal dosage of prednisone. I was also told that the reason for tapering down the dosage is to allow your adrenal glands a chance to regain their ability to produce their stuff and try to function.
I am on 10 everyday
Is it possible just to get off prednisone in a day or does it require weaning
I was recently weaned off of the prednisone! I miss it! It helped with the joint pain a lot!
I was on Prednisone for over a year. I hated it. Gained a ton of weight! I finally told my rheumy I wasn't going to take it anymore. He wasn't happy but understood due to my weight issue. I will probably have to take it during flares, we'll see.
