I was out in the sun for a couple hours today mowing the lawn and painting items. I completely forgot protection. I was extremely exhausted afterwards to the point of having a hard time walking back in the house. I also now have pain in my right elbow and left hand. Since I am newly diagnosed and still learning the symptoms of lupus, does sun cause symptoms so rapidly? Usually I get sun rashes but this time nothing. I have been on plaquenil for a few months though. What a confusing disease :-/

Oh yeah, I didn't believe it until it happened to me without me even thinking about it. I got so drained that I thought I was going to faint, body was so heavy it was difficult to walk a short flight of stairs, then came the darn headache which then went to full blown migraine.....never again, I apply sun screen and like my my visa I don't leave home without it. Never was a hat person but let me tell you that I have a great collection, got my Mom and Sisters wearing them now cuz they wanna look cute like me lol. hope this helps anyone

I was taught when I was first diagnosed to use sunscreen everyday whether your plans include being outside or not. After your morning shower, towel off then apply sunscreen over your entire body. You've begun the days defense, are not likely to forget it, and it also serves as a moisturizer. Hope this helps.

I love the sun! But it doesn't love me....I m retired and moved down here in the south Alabama . If I stay out in the sun to long I will have rashes on my back and chest....just where the sun hits me....dr. Say stay out of it...are you kidding? I love the ocean...I go out a couple of hours before dark....get up early before it gets to hot.

Yes, the sun causes symptoms really fast!! You have to be careful with it and never forget protection! While you get used to remembering, leave a hat on the door to your house, where you will see it before going out, that should remind you.
And yes, lupus is confusing since the symptoms are always changing, sometimes it's rash, sometimes exhaustion, sometimes something else. Remember lupus can attack anything, anytime. That's why you have to be very careful with triggers. Now you know the sun is a big one. Watch yourself to get to know your own personal triggers, so you can start managing them.

yes, seems to happen more as time goes on, too, and I have also noticed humidity is quite a slap in the face as well. My husband has pretty much taken over all the mowing that I used to do. I can do the garden for a little while, as long as its first thing in the morning. I absolutely was an outdoor person, love the sun, and I agree, this is pretty darned sucky
