Hello Folks,
Does anti depressants affect lupus??
Not that I know of,I take Remeron and Xanax without any problems. Lupus can cause depression, you can speak with your Dr about it.Peace&Blessings.
I now take Cymbalta (for PTSD/fybromyalgia) and Nabilone (for Arthritis/appetite). I used to take nothing and was a very angry person... There is a "Drug induced Lupus" however, I found it to be muscle relaxers with anti inflamitorys that did that....
I have never heard of an antidepressant affecting the lupus at all. Many people get depressed with lupus and all that comes with it and so take antidepressants to help them. It does not cause flares.
@DianaForest I took lexapro for years and I don't believe it interfered with lupus at all , however it did stop me from crying a lot! I also take melatonin at night with chamomile tea. Wishing you relief!
As lots of others have noted, lupus causes chronic depression. I take Cymbalta for mine. The Cymbalta is also useful for helping with neuropathy pain.
As @A MyLupusTeam Member said, "check with your doctor." We can all give you an account of our experiences with lupus and what we've read. I can't absolutely rule anything out. There are many chemicals that are suspected of affecting our genes and immune systems.
Be well, dear friend.
