I'm considering have a gastric sleeve operation. I have put on 25kg or a little under 12 pounds in 3 months from being on Prednisone. Has anyone had one done? Was it worth it? Did it mess with your body too much that it wasn't worth it?? Any knowledge or experience with this would be awesome.
I had a gastric sleeve done two years ago. It was the best thing I've ever done. It helped reduce the pressure on my joints and made it much easier to exercise. Of course, 12 pounds is not enough to warrant a gastric sleeve. I lost 100 pounds. Not sure what this translates to in terms of kilograms. I still have joint and muscle pain, fatigue, lupus fog. But overall, I feel much better.
I know how you feel, I hate standing in front of mirrors and I haven't even tried on any of my winter clothes cause I know they're not going to fit. My insurance won't have to come up with the money some how :(
Just had a breakdown in front of my husband tonight. I was trying on clothes with my mother and saw myself in the mirror and was so disgusted. I wonder if my insurance would pay for it?!
I actually miscalculated from kgs to lbs it's 60 pounds that I've put on and seeing as my first ever Lupus flare was with my heart and almost killed me. It's my cardiologist that's recommending the surgery to alleviate the pressure on my hear from carrying all the extra weight.
I'll never ever use prednisone again.I'll rather suffer.Years ago I had to use it,but it let me gain about 32kg.Prednisone makes your bones brittle, give you a hunchback, shortness of breath and many other side effects that a lupus patient dont need together with their disease. Can't your dr prescribe something else, like methotrexate or something?
