Before beginning Methotrexate three weeks ago, I was always prescribed 60mg of Predisone during a flare (pericarditis). I am currently in a bad flare, but when I called my doctor the nurse said I am only to take 20mg this time.

Does anyone know why a smaller dose would have been prescribed? I tried to only take 40mg before we tried 60mg and I never got any relief, so we've never gone less than 60mg for at least 5 days. Do these two medications interact with each other?

Hi Beverlyy, I have never taken Methotrexate yet. Did they do blood work? I know it can decrease your blood cell count. A lot of people take both of them together. I don't know why the doctors can't explain these things to us. For me needing to understand things is a big part of having Lupus. I just came off prednisone I was having a flare. I refused to take methotrexate before. Never say never because I didn't want to take Prednisone either. I take hydroxychloroquine 200mg 2x day I also take Meloxican 7.5mg 2x day. I have Hydrocodone its really the only thing that makes me feel like I have any chance of doing anything normal. I do not take it every day I'm so afraid of getting addicted to it, so I only take it when something special is going on like being with my grandkids. I also have thyroid disease. So I never know what is going on with me. You call that doctor and make him explain to you why the dose change! Honey don't just suffer. Hope you get feeling better soon.

I'm not really sure why the dr would do that but I would definitely seek more information from the dr and don't stop till you get some answers!!! Please keep me posted.

I can't take methotrexate due to liver disease, compliments of the Lupus. I would ask for an explaination from the doctor as well. Pain takes a terrible toll on us mentally as well as physically.
