Please help I'm going to scream I have been dealing with some sort of autoimmune issue for the past 11 years. I was diagnosed with SLE lupus from a positive Ana and a positive dsdna. Then today my blood work showed that both were normal. I am doo frustrated what does this mean. I really am so tired of never knowing what's going on with my body. Any answers would be very helpful. Had this happened to anybody else?

I agree with @A MyLupusTeam Member - get another opinion! One interesting thing is that I was also on Humira before I was diagnosed with lupus, not because of Chron's, but because of RA - it really had no impact on my pain, so we stopped that and I eventually started Orencia. I had read that sometimes the tnf blockers (Humira) may cause +ANA, but the DsDNA is very specific to lupus.

Yes I see a rheumatologist , Gi, and my primary care. It was my primary care who actually ran the tests that came back positive. My Gi thought that it could be mediation induced because I also have Crohn's and had been on Humira. After the dsdna was positive It was determined that my lupus was not mediation related since mediation induced does not cause dsdna.. my rheumatologist doesn't want to foo anything because I'm not really having any complications and with the negative result she definitely doesn't want to put me on meds...I am very frustrated and confused. I am glad to know that you had the same result. Thank you.

Huh. My rheum said that one positive ANA with the right clinical picture is all someone needs to be diagnosed... Lupus is a lifelong thing. Maybe in a remission things would settle, some bloodwork does this though I can't remember which ones. My ANA was actually negative the day I was diagnosed but she didn't care because the big picture was lupus.

I obviously don't know your whole story but would at least encourage you to trust your intuition and stay true to your story and what is happening in your body. And I think the average time to diagnosis is 4-7 years... You're not alone in your struggle and frustration. Hugs!

Hey! Great question! I was in the same boat with my ANA, also had the same number as you. I've seen several rhumies, only one told me that I have lupus. The other said I didn't. It confusing. Are you on meds? If so which ones?

You're welcome. My rheumy never took me off Plaquenil because the disease could turn back to active in a heartbeat and it's impossible to know when that will happen. The whole idea of treatment is to scale back and prevent further damage by controlling the inflammation.
