I'm completely confused.i filled out an application but the lady called and said I haven't paid enough in to social security and if I was still married I wouldn't qualify. My husband doesn't make a ton of money.is there another type of disability or can I qualify if I haven't worked enough to draw? I was half way through nursing school and I wish I could have a career but I'm not feeling well and struggling financially so what do I do?

Halo42 is correct. Also get a lawyer. They will help you and do not charge if case is denied. If won they take a certain amount but will tell you that amount upfront. They now owe you SS since the first time you applied, you would get a lump sum back payment then your monthly would start. LAWYER every office has a disability lawyer specialist.

Despite everyone's good intentions suggesting a lawyer and an appeal, if you don't have (20) enough work credits, neither getting a lawyer nor filing an appeal will work. That system is based on how much one worked per quarter, tax filings, gross income/just a bottom line number, what was paid into the system, & tbh one must be destitute while also being totally destitute is Not a guarantee either. It's not personal, it's a math equation:( You need to apply for SSI and it's possible that you may qualify for some State assistance (perhaps Medicaid, food stamps, etc) if you & your husband are struggling financially as State Assistance is financially based/show tax returns. You could also look into a local food bank, a weekly box of free food can be a big blessing and take a little $$ pressure off. Truly hope this helps. A whole bunch of people are saying prayers for you!!! β€οΈπŸ’™πŸ’œ

Try the Lupus Foundation. See if they have any advice.

But just because you qualify and apply does not mean you will get it.... Just keep applying ... I've been denied every time... Get a lawyer! To help you.... Doing it on your own is a challenge.

Disability is based on your earnings and how much you have paid in. SSI is is different anyone can qualify for this and also be eligible for Medicaid. I hope I have helped you understand. God bless you. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
