I used to have very full long hair and I used to shed hair like crazy. Now my hair is short but no hair shedding. What helps grow your hair back? Is it the cellcept or the plaquenil that causes hair loss?
Lupus itself can cause hair loss. Thyroid problems that sometimes accompany lupus can cause hair loss. Some medications like plaquenil can cause hair loss. Cellcept is not likely to cause hair loss. Stress can cause hair loss. Alopecia in overlap with lupus can cause hair loss.
Have a discussion with your rheumatologist and consider consulting a dermatologist experienced with lupus. The latter may prove quite useful.
All the best,
Linda
Thanks @A MyLupusTeam Member I appreciate your feedback!
Yeah, I had hair loss even before I took meds. The folic acid and a pixie cut have helped. Talk to your rheumy, not only will it be less expensive (my insurance pays for it prescribed by a doctor) but any supplement can mess with your meds, so like lupusflorida said, contact your doctor. I didn't have cellcept experience, like lupusflorida seems to, so sorry for not being able to give you that info.
Also I did hair training. Training my hair to replenish its oils by not washing my hair, and I wash my hair 1 week max. That's REALLY helped with my hair loss. Also try a sulfate free shampoo. I'm allergic to sulfates, so that might be the reason why it helped me, but hopefully it could help you too!
I am on 2000 mg cellcept and my hair will not grow. Couldn't take plaquenil. I would love long hair😔
@A MyLupusTeam Member and @A MyLupusTeam Member does folic acid helps?! I'm in cellcept too, not 2000mg but 1500mg and I'm having the same problem...
