I had to see a hematologist because my iron has been severely low. I start iron infusions tomorrow. Was wondering if anyone else has had infusions and any tips for a first timer.

Yes it can do sweety
My blood test proved I was anaemic which was somewhat of a shock to me as I eat lots of iron rich food liver, steak, broccoli etc
It made sense though as I suffer extreme fatigue for example recently after a karate session that finished at 9pm I went home had a super fast shower and went straight through bed my husband said I was sleeping before my head hit the pillow and made loads of strange snoring noises that made him laugh but it was the best sleep I had in months plus I didn't wake until 2pm the following afternoon and I only woke because my husband woke me otherwise I reckon I woukd have continued sleeping but he was worried and woke me
I take iron tablets prescribed to me plus vitamin B12 that I buy online this helps me so much
So try iron rich foods iron tablets and vitamin B12 tablets they will help you

BeBe2Beautiful, strange how I made it to the hematologist office.
I went to my family doctor, second visit with her, my other Doctor had moved on to better offers; well I gave her a list of my symptoms and I requested an iron, vit B and vit D blood test. They took my blood there in the office and on the same day she said my iron levels looked great. Of course I looked at her puzzled.
The next day I had an appt with a cardiologist. I made an appt with him because some of my symptoms involved short of breath upon exertion with heaviness in my chest and shoulder. I go see him and he diagnosed me with cardiac x syndrom (angina) and dysautonomia. During my visit he mentioned my severely low iron was causing my x syndrome. He was able to view my blood test on line. I asked him if he was looking at my blood test from yesterday and he said yes. He said My Vit B and Vit D were also very low and I need to call my family doctor. Later that evening I received a call from my family doc and she said my levels were severely low that she is referring me to see a hematologist. Hematologist says my levels have been severely low for quite some years and said we need to find out what is causing it and in the mean time set me up for infusions. Strange thing I had also switched gynecologist and received a call from her today regarding my testing. She said I had a large uterus and a very large fibroid on the front wall of my uterus. She said this might be causing my severely low iron. She said I would need a partial hysterectomy or birth control could be an option. I have a lot of pain in my left buttock when I sit and it is a nagging pain down into my leg especially thigh and groin. Gynecologist said it has nothing to do with her end. I saw a new orthopedic and am waiting to have MRI and EMG. So much to do, so many decisions.
I do have a GI appt scheduled in two weeks to clear things on his end. I was DX with GERD back in 2009 and take omeprazole. I hope I didn't bore you.
Some of my other symptoms, sore burning tongue, mouth sores in corners of mouth, heavy fatigue, RLS in legs at night, prickly itchy sensation on legs chest wrist without rash, hair falling out more than usual, can't stop craving ice, feeling full after a few bites, nausiated, gastroparesis before and during period, lost of taste and smell or just a differant taste or smell to what it should be, Dizziness while sitting or standing, lots of chest pain with shortness of breath, body stiffness in ankles wrist knees and elbows. Vision more blurred than usual.

I've dealt with this for about two years before my diagnosis and I've had every test you could think of and found no cause.... I do know when I'm flaring I get blood work done and my levels are quite low..... I've been doing good 6 months ago but since the weather change and increased symptoms my iron is dropping faster
