Hello my dear fellow warriors. I've gone off of Methotrexate because of extreme hair loss and many other negative side effects. Doc wants to try Imuran as Plan B. Have you had hair loss with it?

I've been on low dose (1/2 of usual) of Imuran X 18 months and have had no issues. My hair fell out after my last bad lupus attack (X3 yrs) and when it grew back I wondered how long-term use of these type of drugs would affect my hair thickness, growth, et al. Well, I can't say for sure but I've been reducing Prednisone and find this affects my hair health more than the Imuran -- it's thickened and looks generally healthier the more I reduce the Pred. I wish you luck; I could not tolerate Methotrexate at ALL, and no other immune suppressants except Imuran. It's not perfect, and at the lower dose I still have lupus symptoms on occasion, such as edema in feet/lower legs but I'm 100 Xs better than when I was just on Pred. If I can answer any other questions, let me know. There's a balance of meds/lifestyle out there for everyone, I think, but it's often hard to find with this set of diseases. Very complex interaction with diet, environment, emotional state, and nearly impossible to control triggers. But hang in there -- a challenge doesn't mean defeat, just struggle!!

It doesn't cause hair loss for me. I only get hair loss from my lupus, not from my meds. I hope you find something that works for you!!!

When I was on Imuran, I got several episodes of skin cancer and had to stop it. It is a side effect of Imuran. Google it and good luck.

I lost my hair just for having Lupus. It can cause hair not to grow either.

Thank you Cheryl. I have had Basal and Squamous so I get regular skin checks. I'll ask if I need to get them more regularly.
