Cytoxan And Azathiprine Vs Cellcept?

A MyLupusTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Amsterdam, NL

Hi All,

I'm fairly new on this website. In the past I have done Cytoxan IV/prednisone etc to get my LN under control. Recently I have experienced a flare up and today my doctor told me I have to choose between Cytoxan/azathioprine or cellcept to get my flair down. ANy advice on which one is better or has less harsh side effects? I have never used cellcept and have one week to decide. Thanks alot!

My rheumatologist has a lot of experience with Cellcept and really thinks it is the best option. I did a little research and found it to be more tolerable and people seemed to have a good response to it. I'm about to start taking it myself , so I will keep you posted.

Hello, I had done Cytoxican IV and it had really bad side effects on my gait walking issues after having a few therapies like a few months later. I would be very careful. Maybe ask your dr on taking Myfortic which is known as Mycofenolate or something it does good with me. I was able to lower my Prednisone down to only 5 mg!!!! and hope to get off Prednisone by my next Rheumatologist appointment.:) I would really ask your Rheumatologist if Myfortic is right for you maybe some Rheumatologist do not know about it or support certain medications because of the pharma industries pay them a certain percentage especially with the BIG Prednisone BANG industry which I feel should be more monitored like codien drugs for sure because of the bad side effects. Remember your blood test oncea month and ask about that med. Get back to me and letme know what he told you. Thanks.:)

I believe it is so Individual to what each person tolerates however it is good to ask these questions and get the responses.

I started taking Azathioprine 50 mg once a day 2 months ago in replacement for Prednisone. Had a lab draw last week for my follow-up visit tomorrow with my rheumalotogist. My latest WBC and ANC went all the way down .My WBC 1.8 uL and my ANC 716 they are lowest I have been since .Have to see what my MD will say tomorrow.
We will be trying Benlysta once a week injectable to pair with my Plaquenil.Azathioprine messed up my immune system so bad I developed pneumonia and was on antiobiotic .

I’ve taken prednisone, CellCept and methotrexate I prefer prednisone and plaquenil. I had horrible side effects to CellCept and methotrexate. This is just based upon my opinion. My rheumatologist is really easy to work with if something doesn’t work we try something else. You will find what works for yourself.
