I've been taking 5-20mg Prednisone for eight years along with Benlysta Infusions every four weeks and plaquenil. I've heard of people that refuse to take Prednisone and wonder how that is possible with a lupus diagnoses. I have SLE and would like to know if anyone knows of something else that helps like Prednisone?

Hi. I too had taken prednisone for many years, not able to get off totally until an intensive treatment in Germany. Pending the dose you can not just stop taking it. You have to be weaned off of it or it can have adverse effects. I have been off of prednisone for close to 20 years now. I now have avascular necrosis which I am told is due to the steroids. Now awaiting clearance for treatment for my AVN.

I refuse to take it also. Its horrible for your body. I noticed since i stopped about a year ago, i had to get used to not taking it. But i've adjusted. As stated above, talk to your doctor.

I just finished my 1st week! I feel better! @A MyLupusTeam Member; what does it do to the body (other than making your stomach hurt)? Thanks for insight!
