Hello I'm new to this, has anyone gained weight at least five to seven pounds within a week. I was diagnosed with lupus last December. I was losing the weight and it was coming off great. I recently went from being 210 lb to 220 lb. I don't know it is but I'm gaining weight like crazy, and I feel like I'm swollen. I don't know maybe I'm retaining a lot of water. Has anyone else experienced something like this?
I put on 20 or more pounds in a 2-3 week stretch between appointments in Jan 😔 It looks to be water as I have very severe pitting edema ever since. It was so bad my doctor feared congestive heart failure and I was sent to a vascular doctor, kidney doctor and heart specialist for tests. No one found anything! Uugggghhhhh!!
Not only is it slowing me down and making me feel unwell, it is terribly upsetting!! I’ve always been very picky (some might say compulsive) about my weight and have always been thin. 25 pounds later I can’t stand dressing myself. It’s led to some obvious depression
Since no one can figure out the cause and since I’m not yet dx’d with Lupus I have no treatment yet 😡
The vascular doctor DID say he thought the swelling and water retention was due to Lupus tho. He sees many Lupus patients and has seen it before
I’m very sorry you are dealing with this!
If it give you any hope, this happened to me about 5 years ago as well. Once I started on diuretics prescribed by a doctor I lost 17 pounds in 7-10 days and soon was at my ideal weight once again. So I do think it is reversible 💗
I was diagnosed with lupus in January 2017 and was very thin. My flares were mild and i stayed very active. The last few months I’ve put on about 15-20 pounds pretty quickly. I also feel very swollen, almost like it’s water weight or inflammation. I’ve chalked it up to my flares being more severe and me becoming less active. I’ve also switched from plaquenil to compound medications multiple times during that time. No steriods. Hope this helps!
Yes, it absolutely does. Keep me posted, hoping for an answer.
@A MyLupusTeam Member Have they checked your blood protein, prealbumin and albumin levels? Sometimes if they can’t find the cause it may be nutritional related. And I don’t understand why they would tell you not to take the diuretic, at least try it and see if it’ll help because you’re swollen all over. But also take a potassium supplement with it.
Are you taking a diuretic at all? You have to get rid of that extra fluid. It puts a lot of stress on your internal organs to work harder, low sodium diet and elevate your legs throughout the day to help with the edema as well. I take lasix for days like this.
