All of my piercings keep getting really swollen and bleeding since having symptoms of lupus. I clean them regularly but after they eventually go down it will become swollen again a few days after. Is this common with lupus? I've never had any problems with piercings before now. Any advice on how to make it go down?

I am still at the beginning of my lupus and my doctor keeps telling to remove my belly piercing, I mean, strictly and she's uptight about it..
But I did not have any issues with it or swelling or inflammation or anything that's why I kept it , but as for you you should really take it off because my doctor seemed really serious about it !

Yep totally normal! I had to take out my labret when going through my first big flare up and can now barely wear earrings without my ears becoming swollen. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Wow! I had wondered about this but never thought to ask

I’ve had a belly piercing since I was 19 or 20. It’s been there 20+ years so we can assume it’s well healed 😉

But a couple months ago during a bad flare it got infected. I started wondering if it was related to Lupus since I realized a pattern was starting to appear. Twice in the last year or so it got infected during times I felt particularly unwell.

I had to take mine out and find a thinner gauge. Now it’s a little too short but I needed a quick fix. I’d take it out for good and give up the fight but now I have a darkened hole on my belly button. I do worry this will be a continuing problem tho

Thank you for asking this question! I’m still confused as to how a scarred over hole can get infected 🤔 but it does!

I had 5 piercings and had to take them out because they kept getting infected.
