Before having lupus I use to be really dark than I got sick and now I’m really pale.
So for three years I’ve been pale and the sun would be a rash and I wouldn’t tan
Today I went swimming and out sunblock on everywhere spf 100 and I took off my swimsuit and I have tan lines not too noticeable.
Is anyone else with lupus able to tan still.
Is this a good or bad thing?
Should I be worried?

The reason you don't want to tan is because tanning means your immune system is activated. When it is, it is attacking YOU.

The sun is not our friend, but each of us responds differently. You did your best. You used sunblock. High five ✋ to you! Wait and see how you feel the next couple of days. If you feel crappy 💩, then you better use more sunblock and be in the sun less. If you feel 👌, then use this experience as a how to guide for future adventures. Good luck🍀

It is not good to get a tan with Lupus. The sun is an enemy as it causes flares. Hugs and prayers.

Growing up I was at the pool from 8 am to 8 pm everyday. We didn't do sunscreen back then. I was always very dark even though I am a red head. Once I hit 25 years old I would develop fine red rash all over my body if I went out in the sun and it would itch like crazy. Dr said I was allergic and had sun poisoning. I had also just moved to Florida. Started wearing clothes that protected from sun and soon all the skin that was exposed while just driving would develop the rash and itching. So I wore long sleeves and gloves. Since that time I no longer tan. I simply burn. When I do go out I wear Helioplex 70 sunscreen. But it doesn't seem to help much. I still burn and when I do it peels for weeks. I went swimming one morning on June 9 from 8 am to 10 am and got a horrible burn and am still peeling. I think it is the 5th full peeling. Skin still hurts. I had stopped the methotrexate 2 weeks prior to going out. Have also found that when I spend a lot of time in the sun and heat I experience a flare.

Get a spray tan. When done right they look fantastic (not fake and orange) and you spare yourself the damage the sun causes to skin and the lupus flare it can trigger
